From different charge times to different charging types. How to charge your electric car

3-pin plug- Up to 40 hours (0 - 100% charge)

You can use a standard 3-pin house plug to charge your electric car at home. This is, however, the slowest method to recharge the battery.

Home Wall box (11kW) - Up to 8 hours (0 - 100% charge)

Charging with a home wall box or public charging point is often referred to as ‘Fast AC charging’. As they offer much faster electric car charging speeds than a 3-pin plug.

Rapid Charge (150kW) - Up to 37 mins (10 – 80% charge)

Rapid chargers are the fastest way to charge your electric car. Typically found at motorway services and increasingly at petrol stations and supermarkets.

The Plug-in Hybrid

Power on command

All Volvos plug-in hybrid models deliver a powerful, responsive drive with smooth, quiet acceleration. You can also choose from multiple driving modes to fine tune your ride.

Energy created when braking is harnessed and stored in the car’s battery for future use, allowing you to drive more sustainably and economically.

Track your energy consumption

Using the Volvo Cars app*, you can monitor average fuel consumption, battery charge levels and average use of electricity compared with fuel.

* For MY22, the S90 Recharge, V90 Recharge and XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrids must be equipped with the Digital services package at delivery to enable the Volvo Cars app. The Digital services package comes with a four year subscription which provides full access to available applications and data. At the expiration of the four years, new terms and conditions will apply.

Pure electric or hybrids? Your Volvo uses both for a more considerate drive.

Two power sources. One awesome drive.

Volvos plug-in hybrid models are powered by an electric motor and a combustion engine. Working together seamlessly, they deliver optimal efficiency, reduced tailpipe emissions and a smooth, powerful drive – and fuel consumption can be significantly reduced.

Pure electric mode

A Volvo plug-in hybrid can be driven in Pure electric mode. This means that daily errands and commuting can be transformed into a more considerate drive with zero tailpipe emissions.

Less petrol, more purpose. In Volvos Recharge plug-in hybrids, an electric motor and combustion engine team together for a choice of pure electric mode, power mode and hybrid mode, giving you total driving control and lower tailpipe emissions.

Hybrid mode

When your Volvo is in Hybrid mode, the car uses both the electric motor and internal combustion engine. In doing so, performance, range, fuel consumption and ride comfort are optimised.

Regularly charging the battery to 100% is a great way to make the most of the electric range on plug-in hybrid. With a fuel engine also available, you can allow charge to get low without worry.
