Charging out and about

As of October 2023, there are more than 30,300 UK-wide public charging locations which consist of 79,500-plus individual connectors. Wherever you drive in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales, there’ll almost certainly be a public chargepoint near you.

Home charging solutions

At home, you have two charging options:

Connect your EV or PHEV to a domestic three-pin (3 kW rated) power source
Use a specially installed home chargepoint to enjoy fast-charging (7 kW) speeds

Charging your EV at work

Provided you have the permission of your employer, you can charge your vehicle via a three-pin workplace socket. Many forward-thinking businesses have fast-charging wall boxes available for employee use.

Plug An EV/PHEV can be plugged into a three-pin socket, the kind you have in your home.

Socketed Many dedicated chargepoints (at home, at work and in public) require the connection of the charging cable that came with your car.

Tethered When you access a chargepoint that already has the cable attached, there’s no need to use your own.

You can charge an electric vehicle either by plugging it into a socket or by plugging into a charging unit. There are plenty of charging stations around the UK to stay fully charged while you're out and about.
